There are some pretty obvious reasons for installing security shutters. Security of a property left empty, shop security for night time, extra layers of security for a window or door, the list goes on as you would expect. Security shutters for commercial use come in many materials for different applications, utilising steel, plastic, aluminium and other materials.

Depending on the application and level of security required will help to define which type of security shutters to choose for your business security purposes.

For a business or commercial security shutter there are several operating options. You may want to consult an electricician before sourcing your security shutters, however some companies will advise on the ability to create control panels for multiple shutter control from a single point. This will of course be very useful for larger premises with many points of access. Shutters can be automatic, remote control, open as a security grille, and rolling shutters are common.

There are many types of configuration of the shutter material to consider, each having a unique quality which may perform better or worse in different situations. For example you can find roller shutters (or grilles) which are configured as a Honeycombe grille which is a more decorative shutter. These are considered to be well suited for high security buildings and are adaptable to various opening siuzes (window shutters or door shutters). Again these can be supplied by various security shutter companies with manual operation or motorised electric versions.

Another business security shutter option is a steel shutter which is perforated. These offer ventilation as well as high strength for use behind glass windows and doors, protecting window glazing and access. Large shop windows often utilise the steel perforated security shutter as point of sale can still be viewed by onlookers whilst maintaining maximum security throughout closing times. Available from many security shutter companies as manual or electronic operation.

Modern plastic polycarb security shutters are appearing on the commercial market which allow a far greater level of transparency for the viewer - up to 50 or 60% translucency. These provide similar levels of security to metal versions.

We'll be going further into this in another later article.

Shutters do's and don'ts

Think about the design of your plantation shutters for windows try and think ahead and see past the fashions of the day. Shutters will (SHOULD!) last you a very long time, and buying screaming pink shutters for your windows may not be such a great idea in three years time when your daughter has grown up and wants red instead! Shutters for doors might be a nice idea too!
